Sculptor Tamara Kvesitadze to create such a monument was inspired by the novel, which was written by Kurban Said. The novel “Ali and Nino,” first was published in 1937 in Austria in German, tells the story of love between Azerbaijani-Muslim Ali Shirvanshir and Georgian-Christian Nino Kipiani.
