Mtirala reserve is located on the eponymous mountain, which height is over 1700 meters. Mount name can be translated as “crying,” as most of the year here is foggy. The area of the natural park is 6000 hectares. Its main attractions – healing mineral springs and pure spring. Since the climate is the wettest in the whole Georgia, nearby nature reserve is rich in various kinds of vegetation. There is growing Colchis forest and tree grove, and some plants are found only on the reserve, and nowhere else in the world. Also attracted the attention of tourists’ village on the territory of reserve, the house in which retained their form, since they were constructed more than 200 years ago.
Excursion to the Reserve Mtirala usually involves a trip to the gorge of the river Chakvistskali. You can walk up to the waterfall, with spectacular views of the surrounding area, where you can even have a picnic. Also in the meadow, next to the waterfall, you will be offered a ride on horseback. In the reserve there is camping, so if you are coming here by car, you can stay here overnight. A local tourist center will introduce you not only the diversity of the local fauna and flora, but also the ancient customs and traditions of the Georgian people. It employs information halls and exhibition-sale where you can buy handicrafts and traditional Georgian souvenirs.
